Quite often I get calls from customers that are having problems with the clarity of their pond and resolving this issue is not that difficult to perform. The first and simplest thing to look at is the pond filters. Usually most persons are aware of the filter pad in the skimmer but are not aware that there are also filter pads up in the waterfall. After that I look to see if they have a exterior filtration system and if they do, when was the last time that the filtration was flushed out or when was the sand inside the filter replaced. And lastly I look at the condition of the pond itself. Is it very dirty on the bottom, is there a lot of algae growing? These are signs that the pond might need a drain and cleaning. For most ponds this is something that is generally completed once every one to two years.
